Sports Tweeting

This weekend I decided to live tweet the Ohio Northern University Volleyball match vs Muskingum University. I enjoyed this assignment but it was one I struggled with. With me being a very competition driven individual having to distract myself from the event was difficult. I also don't use twitter therefore it was all new to me. I don't know how many tweets is considered to many or annoying. This is something I was very conscious of, I tried to post during timeouts and at the end of the sets to try to lessen the amount of updates. I also struggled with the formality. I was asked by my coach to do live tweeting on the onuvb twitter rather than my own. This caused me to worry about the wording and tone of each posts. This also caused me to lessen the emotion in our game. We lost and it was a very heartbreaking loss, I was very frustrated at the end but since I was on the volleyball twitter I needed to talk about the hard fight the team had all night rather than the frustration I was feeling and what this loss meant for the team.  Overall, I really enjoyed this assignment, it was something new for me helping me learn more about social media. With a major in Marketing and Sport Management this is a very real assignment for me. This is something I could very well be doing in my job. I learned a lot doing this assignment and plan to take what I have learned into the professional world.

Go look at @ONUVB twitter account to see my live tweeting!

  1. I am in the same boat; this was my first-time using Twitter also. Although publishing live updates ensured I stayed engaged with the event, it was hard to keep up at times and I didn't want to miss something because I was busy Tweeting. I admire that you kept a positive attitude even though the game had a heart-breaking ending. That will definitely pay off in the long run.

  2. I couldn’t imagine having to separate the emotion after a loss from the game to put out a positive tweet. This positivity can be contagious, and I hope it catches on for your team as you look to head into OAC play!
