Bumpy ride

This weekend we made the long haul to the great state of Georgia for a volleyball tournament. This bus ride took 8 hours total but we decided to stop in Knoxville, Tennessee for a night. When we woke up in the morning we had the amazing opportunity of practicing at the University of Tennessee's volleyball only facility. This was a once in a lifetime experience, the locker rooms and lounge area had my jaw on the floor. After completing our practice we drove to a river boat for lunch and a tour of Knoxville. This was amazing I am a huge fan of history and learning about all of the historical buildings in that area was so interesting.

Once we got to Georgia we set our stuff down in the hotel and were off to our first game. This was the headliner of the weekend, Ohio Northern Volleyball with a long tradition of success vs. Berry College #5 in the country with only recent success. The game began and we didn't they got the first point and ran with it. This caused us to be swept, and swept very fast. After the game we all hung our heads in disappointment when our coach came in yelling "you were punched how do you respond!" This caused a fire under our butts that made us hungry. We went home that night awaiting the next competition. We woke up bright and early to take on Covenant University losing the first set we knew something had to change. We told each other what we needed and how to do it. The response was immediate we then swept the rest of the match winning 3-1. With the win still in our blood we took on Oglethorpe sweeping them with no mercy.

Then we had the bus ride home, this was the worst part. 8 straight hours after a long day of games. We began the drive and soon all felt car sick which made 8 hours feel like 20. I have never been more excited to see King Horn than I was this day. Still land never felt as good as it did, I could of kissed the ground. After the trip was over I reflected and feel like we grew together as a whole and we are ready for the tough journey ahead.

  1. Hey Sydney! I loved reading about your time in Knoxville. Isn't it crazy how much more advanced division one school's locker rooms can be? I also think that touring a city is the best way to be interactive in their culture. That sounds like a great experience for you!

  2. It is insane to see how much different the facilities are from D3 to D1. Way to finish the weekend strong.

  3. Traveling that far with my team would be an awesome experience. Waking up and getting to practice at a D1 facility would be even better. Unfortunately I have 150+ people on my team, so taking in season trips to Georgia is unrealistic. I hope you had a great time on your bumpy ride.
